A new revision of the Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly planned for Europe, which will feature replaceable batteries for the console and Joy-Con.

A report from Nikkei (via Nintendo Everything) said the new model would comply with European Union legislation, which gives users the right to repair and makes devices less impactful on the environment. This has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo itself, however.

Nikkei also reported that similar policies may be implemented in the United States and Japan, “if consumer awareness of the right to repair increases.”

The EU announced the regulation in 2023, requiring handheld consoles to feature replaceable batteries by February 2027.

Earlier this week, a significant update launched for the Switch 2, adding a Handheld Boost feature. This allows users to run original Nintendo Switch in handheld mode with docked-level performance, increasing resolution and improving graphical fidelity.
