On social media last night, publisher Square Enix announced that new sales milestones have been reached for both the Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default series. Proving that traditional JRPGs are hardly dead, Octopath Traveler has moved over 7 million copies between its three games. Available across all platforms, the series has become a bigger hit than Square Enix likely anticipated.

At the same time, the Bravely Default series has just surpassed 4 million units sold between its three games. This one is harder to get into if you don’t have specific platforms as the main sequel is only available on 3DS (Bravely Second: End Layer). Bravely Default 2 released in 2021 and is currently only available on PC and Nintendo Switch.
