Update: Since our report earlier this morning, Amazon has adjusted the pricing of the physical version of Pokémon Pokopia to reflect the standard $69.99 that the game normally runs for at other retailers.
In a rather interesting report from VGC this morning, it appears as if the physical version of Pokémon Pokopia has been selling out at most retailers across the world. To capitalize on demand, Amazon has even taken to raising the price to $80, which will probably land the company in hot water with Nintendo. As a reminder, Pokopia is the first Nintendo game to release on a Game-Key Card, a format that has been under fire since it was revealed last year. I guess that doesn’t matter to most people.
As VGC notes, Walmart, Target, and even Nintendo’s own website are out of stock of Pokopia. GameStop has changed its website to checking your location for surrounding copies, though no stores within 100 miles of my address has a copy. Amazon no longer has any stock, though the store page reads “price higher than typical.” Walmart Canada released a statement on Twitter confirming that it sold through its first shipment and has requested more. Vooks, an Australian gaming outlet, even reported this morning that Pokopia has flown off shelves in the great Down Under.
Due to massive demand, we’ve sold through our initial allotment of Pokémon Pokopia.
As a result, we’ve now opened pre-orders for Wave 2 of Pokémon Pokopia on Nintendo Switch 2.
Stay tuned to your order info on the Walmart Canada website for delivery timelines. https://t.co/dO20hqGnip

Where things get a little bizarre is with UK sales data. According to Chris Dring of The Game Business, physical sales of Pokopia in the UK were less than half that of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. While that sounds bad, the reason is that Nintendo apparently undersupplied copies to retailers. I guess Nintendo did not anticipate demand being this high, which is likely what happened on a global level as well. Due to the game being on a Game-Key Card, there’s every reason to believe people would simply go digital instead of sticking with a cartridge that technically has no data on it.
