Sega has revealed that the next free update for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will bring Super Monkey Ball’s AiAi into the action. Hailing from a classic arcade legacy dating back over 20 years, AiAi has become iconic in his own right thanks to a series of creative and fun action/puzzle games. Featured in previous Sonic Racing titles, it only makes sense he would wind up in CrossWorlds.

To coincide with the AiAi update, CrossWorlds will also host a “Super Monkey Ball Festival,” which is set to run between February 12th, 2026, at 7 p.m. ET until February 15th, 2026, at 6:59 p.m. ET. As with past events, you can earn some in-game items and mess around with AiAi in online races. Since he’s free, it’s maybe not as big of a deal as a paid DLC launch, but it’s still cool all the same.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is currently available on all major platforms. A physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition is planned for release on March 26th, 2026.

SonicRacing: CrossWorlds free characters update video

The video below was originally uploaded back in December 2025 on YouTube and states that AiAi was to be released in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in January 2026. It seems that plans changed since the video was shared and the character was instead released in February this year. Nevertheless, you can view adorable AiAi in in action in the game!
