During a livestream last night on the Capcom Channel, Capcom debuted fresh footage of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village running on Nintendo Switch 2. Our first glimpses of how the games will run on Nintendo’s newest platform, the results are pretty solid. Resident Evil 7 seems to be running at 60 fps, which is very impressive for the level of fidelity on display.
At roughly the 34-minute mark in the stream, we see the opening segment of RE7, including the introductory cutscene. I don’t recall if the game ran at 60 fps on PS4, but it looks very comparable to that. I’m certainly spoiled in that I’ve played 7 on PC, but this is otherwise a quality conversion of the game. The footage runs for about 20 minutes before a short break, then some more plays starting at 56:13 and goes for nearly 30 extra minutes.
Resident Evil Village gets its own showcase at the one hour, 36 minute mark and closes out the stream. Much like with 7, we see the opening cutscene and sequence in Ethan’s house. Again, the game is shown running at 60 fps and looking basically identical to the PS4 Pro port. Sadly, we don’t get to see the intense opening shootout, but it otherwise looks like Capcom has nailed these two specific games on Switch 2.
What this tells me is that Resident Evil Requiem is likely going to run really great on Switch 2. One of the issues with earlier RE Engine games is that they had no native support for Nvidia’s DLSS technology. Even Resident Evil 4 from 2023 on PC did not include DLSS. Since Requiem will have that built in from the start, the Switch 2 should be able to provide a relatively smooth and good-looking game without much compromise. It can’t match the raw power of a PlayStation 5, for instance, but I wouldn’t expect dramatic cuts.
