The release of the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is right around the corner. While many are eager to add the four new villagers to their islands, there’s more on the way than just them. The free update releasing on the same day today will of course be bringing some new features to the game as well, along with a sneaky visual bump that many might not have even known was coming.
Along with the wide array of new content coming to New Horizons with the 3.0 update, a resolution upgrade for handheld is on the way too. According to the official Nintendo website, the game is set to be optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and will receive improved image quality. Seeing as New Horizons already runs at 720p on the original Nintendo Switch, it’s safe to assume this means a bump to 1080p when played on the Switch 2 handheld display.

While it’s a very easy change to miss especially when accompanied with extra content, it’s still a nice upgrade that won’t go unnoticed. For any who enjoy working on their island while out and about or who just prefer the cozy feeling of playing on handheld, now the game will look better than ever!
