In a new interview with Julien Chièze posted on YouTube, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that he and creative director Tetsuya Nomura are very close to coming up with a title for the third part of the FF7 Remake trilogy. Said to be narrowed down to two choices, Hamaguchi states that the title will be decided by the end of 2025.
“Me and Tetsuya Nomura have already narrowed it down to two,” Hamaguchi said, “within the year we will decide on which one. Within this year it will be set.”
While the majority of the interview, which takes place with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director Guillaume Broche, was focused on RPGs as a genre and the inspirations each director brought into their works, the bit about Remake Part 3 could be hinting at a reveal very soon. With The Game Awards running this Thursday, it’s reasonable to assume Square Enix will be on hand to announce the conclusion of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

For my money, I’m almost convinced the title will be Remembrance. The way the plot has unfolded across both Remake and Rebirth, I have a feeling the final installment wrap everything up in a reflective manner that looks back on the legacy of Final Fantasy as a series. I could also be full of hot air as I spent maybe 30 minutes writing out a bunch of words starting with “RE.” Imagine it being Final Fantasy VII: Resident Evil?
