A new article from Famitsu magazine has revealed that legendary game creator Hideo Kojima will be providing his voice for the Japanese dub of Disney’s Zootopia 2. Released over the Thanksgiving weekend and already off to a ludicrously profitable start, it seems Disney wants to give Japanese audiences a special treat when the film releases this weekend (Kojima obviously already recorded his lines). As a matter of fact, the film’s director, Jared Bush, personally called Kojima to make the cameo happen.

In the film, Kojima will be playing the part of Paul Moldebrandt, the Zootopia PD IT expert. Speaking to Famitsu, Kojima said, “I’ve had plenty of experience with cameos in live-action films and games, but this is my first time dubbing an animated feature film. And it’s from Disney, of all places! And it’s a sequel to my favorite film, Zootopia!” He then explains how he accepted the offer from Bush without hesitation, and was rather impressed at the display of technology put into the film.
While Kojima hasn’t done previous voice work for any animated films, he did make a cameo appearance in Remedy’s 2019 title Control. Initially exclusive to the PlayStation versions of the game, Kojima portrays Dr. Yoshimi Tokui and gives players a mission to collect some tapes. It’s incredibly brief, but a nice bonus. Kojima even repaid the favor by having Remedy’s creative director Sam Lake appear in Death Stranding.
