Fans of the classic RollerCoaster Tycoon series will be happy to learn that Atari is finally releasing a physical edition of the third installment of the series for the Nintendo Switch and PS5. While available digitally since 2020 (and currently $7.50 on the eShop), RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition will finally be able to sit on your shelf when it releases on March 6th, 2026. Running $29.99, it doesn’t seem to have anything special other than the full game on a cartridge.

I’m not sure why this was announced out of the blue today, but it’s a win for video game preservation nonetheless. Going forward, physical editions will be harder to come by as publishers shift towards a digital-only future. Nintendo is even doing this with the upcoming release of Pokémon Pokopia, which will be the first first-party game to release on the controversial game-key card format. I wouldn’t necessarily consider that the final nail in the coffin for physical games, but they are likely to become similar to Blu-Ray movie releases, which are typically handled by boutique labels now.
