As part of its latest financial results report, Nintendo has revealed that the Switch 2 has sold a staggering 10.36 million units as of the end of September 2025. In comparison for time frames, this figure outpaces the original Switch (4.7 million), the PlayStation 4 (7.5 million), and the PS5 (7.8 million). Against all odds, the Nintendo Switch 2 has now become the biggest console launch in history.
As you could expect from these numbers, Nintendo has increased its sales forecast for the Switch 2’s first business year. Originally set at 15 million, the company now expects 19 million units to be sold by next March. It also is forecasting increased profits at 15%, or roughly $2.4 billion. According to Nintendo, these figures are taking US tariffs into consideration.
Further breaking down the numbers, Nintendo states that 35% of Switch 2 sales have been in the Americas (North and South), and 22.6% are from Japan. Speaking to Bloomberg, Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda said, “Selling over 10 million units in just the first half of the fiscal year was a major surprise that far exceeded market expectations. Since sales in the second half of the year — which includes the Christmas shopping season — almost never fall below those of the first half, there is a strong likelihood that Nintendo will revise upward again.”

Conversely, CEO of Kantan Games Dr. Serkan Toto told VGC, “I am a bit surprised that other analysts are surprised. Wasn’t it always very clear that there is incredible pent-up demand for Switch 2? I always said Nintendo will land around 20 million units at the end of their fiscal year and that their initial 15 million forecast is typical lowballing.” Toto believes Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be enough to carry the console through 2026, though there are still major games slated for the remainder of 2025.
