Nintendo has announced that it will be hosting the first in-game event for Donkey Kong Bananza’s DLC, titled “DK Island & Emerald Rush,” next week. Set to begin on October 28th, 2025, and run until November 4th, the event will feature a mode called “Chip Fever” that introduces a chip-focused twist on the regular Emerald Rush mode. It seems players will be limited to using only chip-based perks to rack up as high a score as possible.
After crossing a certain score threshold, players can unlock statues to place on their islands. As you can see from the header image, you’ll be able to earn displays of Kong Bananza and Enguarde, DK’s swordfish pal from the Country games. There isn’t any benefit to having these statues on your island, but they look pretty nice.
Donkey Kong Bananza’s DLC was released on September 12th, 2025, and contained mostly side modes to obtain more in-game resources for players. There was some kind of roguelike mode akin to Splatoon 3’s DLC, but it’s hardly the type of stuff Nintendo should be charging for. It also came out so quickly after release that one could get the impression it was removed from the base game to sell as DLC later. It’s not the type of thing I’d ever thought I’d see Nintendo engage in, but I guess that’s just the era we live in.
