It will never cease to amaze me the kind of projects people get up to. Not content to have their Game Boy Micro go to waste, one Redditor by the name of MaSaKee modded the internals of Nintendo’s smallest handheld device into the famous N64 controller. The result is a melding that sort of looks like a Dreamcast controller with extra prongs. Also, the Game Boy Micro might not finally be playable by adult-sized humans.

There isn’t much on the process of how this came to be, but if you’re wondering what all of the buttons do, MaSaKee explained that with some pictures. The D-pad and joystick handle movement while the two shoulder buttons and A+B work as they would on the GBA. Start is start (duh), while Z functions as select. The C-buttons, on the other hand, control contrast and volume. There seems to be speaker holes at the bottom of the joystick prong and if you don’t want to relive early ’00s mono, the back of the controller features a headphone jack. The memory card port has been retrofitted to a cartridge slot and the whole thing is powered by USB-C (presumably with a rechargeable battery).

It’s quite the Frankenstein of a console, but I can’t say that I’m not impressed. While I still think the screen is a bit too small to be truly functional, having a controller that allows me to actually hold the device might make this the only way I could realistically play a Game Boy Micro. I suppose you miss out on all the cool shells Nintendo released for the thing, but visibility is certainly better than having fancy colors.
