Anyone looking to try out Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds ahead of its September 25th, 2025 release date will want to cancel their plans for this weekend. Sega announced this morning that a three-day network test will run from August 29th – September 1st, 2025 on all applicable platforms for the game. For those paying attention, that excludes Switch 2 as that port won’t be released until later in the year.

For Switch 1 owners (and technically Switch 2 via backwards compatibility), you can download the open network test right now to be ready for when the servers go live. In an impressive move, the test will include 12 racers, and 16 courses! These courses will be split between nine traditional tracks and seven of the signature CrossWorld levels. As you could expect, you’ll also be able to sample the online play, which has full crossplay compatibility with each platform (which is PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S). Sega also mentions 42 gadgets will be selectable, giving you a rather large sample of the customization options present.

The specific courses and characters are listed on the CrossWorlds website, but know that offline split-screen play will not be available in this test. Any save data will also not carry over to the final game, which makes sense. Strangely, you will need to be subscribed to Switch Online to play online matches on Nintendo’s platform. PS5, Xbox, and PC players will not need a premium subscription to challenge their friends.
