When Elden Ring releases on Nintendo Switch 2 this year, it won’t just be a belated port to Nintendo’s console family and nothing more. Its subtitle, “Tarnished Edition,” will actually include some extra content to sweeten the deal for fans who are either double-dipping or have waited for a portable version over the years. In a post on Famitsu’s website (and roughly translated by Google Translate), we’ve gotten some information about new character classes and customization options that will be added to the game.
According to the post, the new classes “Knight of Ides” and Heavily-Armored Knight” will be available from the start of the game. As fans of Souls titles know, character classes are a bit nebulous in that your stats are ultimately yours to control as you progress. Character classes are mostly a blueprint for how to start the game before you specialize in certain tactics. Having an option to begin your adventure with heavy armor might help ease new players into Elden Ring’s particular flavor of punishment, though. These new classes will also have new armor sets, which will be unlockable even if you don’t select them as your starting class.
In addition to those classes, Tarnished Edition is set to include new options to customize Torrent, your Spectral Steed. In the base game, Torrent had a static design for every player and was pretty much a means to an end for traversing the massive map in Elden Ring. In Tarnished Edition, there will be different appearances players can select, as well as armor options to give them even more flair. If you’re afraid that all of this will be exclusive to the Switch 2, fear not. FromSoftware will release the “Tarnished Pack” as DLC for all platforms so that everyone can have the same experience.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition does not currently have a release date, but it’s scheduled to be available on Switch 2 in 2025.
