Developer Sabotage Studio has announced that the upcoming free DLC for its hit 2023 RPG Sea of Stars will now be releasing on May 20th, 2025, across all platforms (which include PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch). An entirely new quest that reunites protagonists Zale and Valere for some tougher challenges, this DLC will task players with exploring a new invention from its titular watchmaker that will take it duo across the world of Horloge.
Interestingly, this DLC campaign will not be a direct continuation of the main game’s mechanics, but a self-contained epilogue with an entirely new progression system. Both Zale and Valere will have access to new classes and new weapons, with Zale becoming a juggler and Valere performing acrobatics. Garl won’t be joining the party this time as they’ve recruited the likes of the Artificer, a “mechanized, laser-wielding sharpshot.”
As Sabotage Studios states, Throes of the Watchmaker includes new areas, puzzles, and enemies in a storyline unique from Sea of Stars’ main quest. The budget for this DLC is roughly equivalent to the main game, so you can expect this new story to last around eight hours. It will also feature a brand new score from lead composer Eric W. Brown, along with contributions from Yasunori Mitsuda, who worked on Chrono Trigger.
If you’re looking to jump back into Sea of Stars after having completed it nearly two years ago, there’s never been a better time than now. Just this past November, Sabotage introduced the “Dawn of Equinox” update, which reworked the combat system, introduced a more in-depth prologue, and even provided difficulty options for its main quest. While Throes of the Watchmaker might be a completely separate story, you can re-experience the main game in an entirely new light now.
