After the absolutely brutal news yesterday that Ubisoft had disbanded the team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, it seems that not everything is entirely gloom and doom for the publisher. According to a new report from Insider Gaming, the former Prince of Persia team has had most of its members moved over to a potential Rayman remake, among other unspecified projects. Sadly, as is typical with Ubisoft, the company has made one good move and one really bad one.

Unnamed sources close to the Rayman remake project have told Insider Gaming that Michel Ancel, the original creator of Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil, will be working on this remake as a consultant. While he won’t be directly involved in development, it has raised concerns among team members as Ancel was outed by a French publication in 2020 for being a toxic leader. Ancel tried to control the narrative around this by announcing his retirement a week before the news broke, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was an abusive leader for many years.

While that is majorly disappointing, at least the silver lining is that the Prince of Persia team hasn’t been laid off. Other members have reportedly been put to work on the long-gestating (and probably dead) Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the next Ghost Recon title. With Ubisoft rethinking a lot of its priorities with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, there’s a chance we won’t hear about these particular titles until things are good and ready.
