The first game in the Legend of Zelda series where you can play as Zelda was released only a week ago, but players have already discovered a way to play as Link, thanks to content creator alyo on YouTube! By doing certain steps, players can encounter a glitch that will allow them to control Cloaked Link, who you play as in the first moments of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. If you want to perform this glitch for yourself, follow the steps below!

  1. Start a brand new file.
  2. Save as soon as you can control Link, once you enter the Suthorn Ruins.
  3. Play the game through the first dungeon.
  4. Make sure you have the Sign echo and head to Kakariko Village. Go out of the east gate and go up to the forest area, jumping on top of the trees. Try and keep an enemy near you or remember its location, you’ll need it soon.
  5. Your goal is to get as close to being “reset” as possible, placing a Sign on top of the tree, and hitting the sign while reading it, while ALSO opening the menu. (This may take some time, for tips on performing this part of the glitch, watch alyo’s video as she goes in depth on how to successfully do it!)
  6. Once you’ve opened the menu, you can move around on the minimap. The goal is to get an enemy to kill you, sending you to the Game Over screen.
  7. Once on the Game Over screen, you’ll be prompted to load a save file. You’ll select the Suthorn Ruins save, and once it goes dark, you’ll immediately hit the Up and A buttons.
  8. If you’re successful, you’ll be able to resume the game as Link, rather than Zelda!

You’ll now have access to Link’s weapons, including the sword, shield, arrows and bombs. Be warned that your progress will be effectively reset, meaning your map and dungeon progress will be wiped. You won’t be able to see certain things like rifts but you should be able to continue on with the game. You also won’t be able to use any of the Tri Rod abilities.

It’s currently unknown how far you can actually get as Link, but this is a fun glitch! It’s very likely to be patched out so if you want to break Echoes of Wisdom, do it soon as there’s no telling when it could go away. Let us know if you were able to pull it off and a big shoutout to alyo for finding the glitch!
