When Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door releases on Switch next month, it will not only bring one of the best RPGs of the 00s to Nintendo’s console, it will come with a host of audio and visual changes. While the graphical overhaul is very easy to spot, the remixed OST might take a keener ear to notice during gameplay. Thankfully, Nintendo has been teasing some of the new tracks on social media as we get closer to release.

First up on the docket is a 30-ish second snippet of Rogueport, the starting area of Thousand-Year Door and one that players will be traversing multiple times. The new version of the song sounds a bit more modern in its production quality, including higher-resolution audio and different sample instruments. I don’t know if I really care for how it sounds, but it’s always neat to hear an old favorite get reworked.

Nintendo hasn’t confirmed if this remake will include the original OST as an optional choice, but the company does have a precedent for providing that option. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition had a toggle in the options menu and even Super Mario RPG included the original SNES soundtrack for purists. It would be genuinely strange if Thousand-Year Door doesn’t allow players to change between the OSTs at will.
