Nintendo’s latest financial reports have come in today but alongside them came a fairly big bombshell from the President of the company himself, Shuntaro Furukawa.
According to reporters from Mainichi who attended the latest Nintendo investor briefing, and translated by Eurogamer, Furukawa states recent reports circulating the internet are “inaccurate” and merely “rumors”. Specifically these include the Switch’s successor being shown to developers at Gamescom and Activision getting a preview of the device last December.
What’s notable about the latter rumor is that it is actually provable with evidence as leaked emails from the recent Microsoft/Activision merger FTC case showed correspondence about an “NG Switch” and an upcoming Furukuwa briefing.
The article also touches upon the recent patents that swirled around the internet, with Furukawa noting that company released the patents knowing they’d become public knowledge and wouldn’t necessarily be implemented in an upcoming device. This is par for the course and it is always worth taking patent leaks with a grain of salt as to them actually leading to a retail release.
Naturally we’re still aways away from learning about Nintendo’s next system but we’ll be sure to bring you all the latest as it comes in.
