In news that is more a confirmation than anything shocking, the European Commission has announced in a LinkedIn post (of all places) that Nintendo of Europe’s recent policy change wherein they’ll repair Joy-Con out of warranty for either defects or wear and tear was due to an agreement between the organizations.
The most notable part of the announcement is the commission noting that Nintendo is going beyond even the legal guarantee in offering repairs. The European Right to Repair is a guarantee to have faulty products be repaired free of charge within two years of buying the product. By Nintendo agreeing to repair Joy-Cons indefinitely, that is indeed more than they’re legally required to do, probably because it matches Nintendo of America’s repair policy.
You can submit your Joy-Cons for free repair in the EU now “until further notice.”
