While trademarks had leaked previously, it was still a surprise to see the Baten Kaitos duology appear with a remaster during yesterday’s Direct. The games, developed by the team at Monolith Soft (Xenoblade, Xenosaga), originally released for the GameCube but they’ll be getting a new coat of paint this time around.

While the trailer above covers the essentials, an official Q&A from Bandai Namco touches upon a few other additions.

Various quality-of-life improvements will be incorporated, like the ability to turn off encounters, auto-battles, cutscene skipping, and auto-save. It’s confirmed there’ll be no new content, but nothing will be cut, either.

It’s also revealed that the game will only contain Japanese voice-acting with text localization into English, French, Italian, German, Spanish in the first entry and just English in the second.

Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster arrives on Switch this summer.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
