It’s no secret that I have a huge soft spot for the Nintendo 64, and even now, nearly 25 years later, I get excited anytime I find something new or unusual discovered or created for the console. Whether it’s the recently uncovered Dinosaur Planet beta build, or a speedun of someone beating Mario 64 blindfolded, it all makes me feel like a kid again. With that being said, you can probably understand why I got so excited to see that N64 modder ArcticJaguar725 created a fully functioning build of Guitar Hero within Super Mario 64, and it looks amazing!

This mod is just one of many entries is a musical-mod competition put on by SimpleFlips and Romhacking.com. Talented modders from across the globe put together some pretty innovative musical creations that you can see right here.

The game itself looks exactly how you would imagine it should look; five buttons, notes falling down, and even a combo meter are all recreated perfectly. The game even features a completely original soundtrack of 10 songs inspired by Nintendo classics.

If you want to check out Guitar Hero 64 for yourself, you can download the mod and play around with it right now. If you have the right hardware, you can even get it up and running on original Nintendo 64 hardware! Rock on!
