While the upcoming remaster of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles promises to make the game more accessible than ever – with online multiplayer across three distinct platforms and a tweaked single player experience – it’s coming at the cost of local multiplayer, according to a recent Tweet from the game’s official Twitter account. “Development reasons” are cited as necessitating a choice between online and local play, with the former ultimately being viewed as more accessible.

What this essentially means is that you won’t be able to play the game on the same screen (something which wasn’t possible in the original release due to menus appearing on attached Game Boy Advance systems) or via local wireless play between systems. This means that if you and some friends want to play the game in the same room, you’ll have to rely on an internet connection rather than the local wireless capabilities of the system.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition launches on August 27th.
