Kirby Air Ride might be one of the more unique entrants in the series, yet it (and its City Trial mode) are still much loved in the right circles. That’s why I’m excited to see that Nintendo has filed a trademark for Kirby Air Ride in Japan as of January 28th.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything is directly coming from this, such as a sequel or re-release. It could just as easily be renewing or securing the trademark for a game that was released back in 2003. Still, as this is a more niche title in Kirby history it is a curious filing. It seems GameCube titles aren’t being routinely remastered and there’s a whole library of N64 games ahead of this one when it comes to Switch Online services and Classic/mini consoles.

But hey, we can all dream. Let us know if you’d be happy to see Kirby fly again, or revisit one of creator Masahiro Sakurai’s last entries in the franchise.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
