To prepare for the brand new change in five-star Raid Battles in Pokémon GO, the official Pokémon website has been updated to offer some tips to battle the new legendary Pokémon Virizion and successfully take it down for capture.
In total, the Pokémon website has outlined three major tips to consider when fighting Virizion. The first, and perhaps most important, is one that’s all too familiar to Pokémon Trainers around the world: consider typing! Specifically, Flying-type Pokémon with Flying-type moves are going to be the most effective against Virizion, as Flying-type is super effective against both the Grass- and Fighting-types. However, Virizion is also weak against the Fire-, Psychic-, Poison-, Ice-, and Fairy-type. If you don’t have a powerful Flying-type like Moltres or Rayquaza, you might want to consider those as backups!
The second thing to consider is the weather you’re fighting Virizion in. While Flying-types will be effective in most weather conditions, you’ll find that Fire-types have increased power in sunny weather, while Ice-types do more damage in snowy weather and Fairy-types do more damage in cloudy weather. If you don’t have a full team of six Flying-type Pokémon, take a look at the weather and fill out the gaps that way!
Finally, you’ll want to consider Virizion’s potential Charged Attacks, and play around those. If you know its Charged Attacks specifically from battling it previously, you’ll be able to adjust your team to better resist those attacks. Stone Edge will take out Flying-types easily, and Close Combat or Leaf Blade will deal out major damage if your Pokémon aren’t resistant.
And of course, when it comes to trying to catch Virizion, be careful with how you throw your Premier Balls! You’ve only got a limited number of them, so play to your abilities, make sure Virizion isn’t moving, and use a Golden Razz Berry!
Virizion will be available in five-star Raid Battles until January 7th, 2020, at 1 p.m. PST. Good luck out there, Trainers.
