Alright, folks — I need to get this one out of the way right off the bat. The information below is not an official announcement. However, it does come courtesy of one of — if not the — most reliable leakers in the game right now, Nate the Hate. As always, take this with a grain of salt until something official is announced. Understood? Great. Let’s dive in.
During the Nate the Hate Podcast, which dropped earlier this morning, Nate mentioned that he has heard that in lieu of a 3D Mario title releasing this year, a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake could be arriving this holiday season. You can jump to the 43:00 mark of the podcast below to hear it for yourself.
Now, what does an Ocarina of Time remake actually look like? It doesn’t sound like Nate has too many details on that front, so your guess is as good as mine. That said, as we saw with the 2011 release of Ocarina of Time 3D on the Nintendo 3DS, a remake doesn’t necessarily mean a completely new game.
If this rumor holds true, Nintendo could go one of two ways. It could deliver an updated and enhanced version of the original, keeping a similar art style, layout, and mechanics. Or, it could go all-in and take a Final Fantasy VII Remake-style approach, rebuilding everything from the ground up with updated maps, story beats, and a brand-new art direction.

Honestly, as a die-hard Ocarina of Time fan, I’m hoping for the latter. I’ve played the original more times than I can count, and Ocarina of Time 3D already scratches that “updated” itch for me. So if Nintendo’s going to do this, I really hope it’s going to go all out. But hey — that’s just me.
