With only a few weeks left until The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits US theaters, Universal Studios and Nintendo are pulling out all the stops to promote the film. In New York City right now, you can find various billboards around Times Square and Rockefeller Plaza that highlight key sequences from the film. Over at Columbus Circle, though, is a rather impressive display that mimics the stained-glass window that adorns Princess Peach’s castle. It’s merely a vinyl decal, but it looks outstanding.
While it’s not surprising that Universal would highlight the film at very possible avenue, it’s still impressive to see gaming’s most iconic character get emblazoned on the side of a building. Video games have become mainstream over the years, but being a kid of the ’90s, there’s still a part of my brain that remembers when that wasn’t the case. If only child me could see how beloved Mario would become, I think it would have made him happy.
