Over the last few days, a meme has been floating around the internet where people used the Pokémon Pokopia font from the title screen to create silly title cards. Not all of it is SFW, but generally speaking, it’s only been fans using the meme generator and not official companies or major bodies of government… that is, until the White House got involved.
Since we live in the worst timeline possible, the White House social media team caught wind of the Pokopia title generator and used it to post a “Make America Great Again” card on March 5th, 2026, aka the launch date for Pokémon Pokopia. What was once a funny little meme now became a hotbed of political turmoil due to appearing on an official government social media account.
As Time Magazine reports, The Pokémon Company is not pleased by this. In a statement given to press, TPC spokeswoman Sravanthi Dev said the following:
“We are aware of recent social content that includes imagery associated with our brand. We were not involved in its creation or distribution, and no permission was granted for the use of our intellectual property. Our mission is to bring the world together, and that mission is not affiliated with any political viewpoint or agenda.”
What makes this worse is that it’s not even the first time the US government has co-opted Pokémon imagery to push its agenda. Last September, a video from the Department of Homeland Security was floating around Twitter that used the Pokémon anime slogan “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” in relation to rounding up immigrants. At the time, TPC had commented that permission was not given to DHS for that video. Seemingly, the US government doesn’t care.
