Resident Evil Requiem may have only just released last weekend, but the game is off to a hot start. Capcom has announced that the newest installment in its long-running survival horror series has surpassed 5 million units sold. It’s not clear if that was all within the weekend, but it’s still less than one week since Requiem hit shelves. I’m sure Capcom is thrilled with the result, with Requiem already selling half as much as some of the other more recent Resident Evil titles have in a few years.
The press release doesn’t give any details on breakdown between platforms, though I would expect the PlayStation 5 version to be the most popular. The game did break Steam’s concurrent player record for the series over the weekend, with 334,214 people playing it at the same time. I imagine the Nintendo Switch 2 port has also gone over well, especially since it launched day-and-date with the other ports. We’re in a new era for Nintendo where its platform can get major triple-A releases with very little compromise alongside everyone else.

This type of launch weekend is encouraging for the ongoing support of the Resident Evil series. Capcom has been on a hot streak with these games, releasing them every few years and with an exceptionally high level of quality each time. We might be five or so years out from Resident Evil 10, but the future is certainly bright for fans of this franchise.
