During today’s Pokémon Presents presentation, Game Freak unveiled the next generation of Pokémon games to wrap up the roughly 25 minute stream. Titled Pokémon Winds and Waves, not only will these two games be set across a tropical new region, but they’ll be Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives. That’s right, we’re leaving the Switch generation behind and going full in on next-generation gaming!

Surprisingly, the reveal trailer did not give that many details about where players will be exploring. Lots of scenery was shown off, but the region hasn’t been named yet. We did get the names of the three new starter Pokémon, which are Pombom (fire), Brow (grass), and Gecqua (water). There are even some new Pikachu variants dubbed “Mr. Windychu” and “Ms. Wavychu.”

One interesting detail is that the player’s clothing changes based on the version they get. As the official website reads, “Your main character will sport a different outfit depending on which version of the game you play,” though the difference seems limited to your hat and backpack. It’s unclear if further player customization will be available, though I imagine it won’t.

Lastly, this will be the first Pokémon game to feature a Brazilian Portuguese localization option. Past games have included more than one language option, but as we head into the future, The Pokémon Company is looking to expand the reach of its flagship franchise. That’s good news for everyone.
