Digital Foundry has published its performance comparison video for Resident Evil Requiem, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version stacking up very well against its competitors.

The popular technical analysis group were very impressed with the Nintendo port, which isn’t far behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions. In fact, Switch 2 has a particular edge over the Series S.

“Series S does run at a much lower resolution,” senior staffer John Linneman said.

“But in the other areas, it does actually have some of the features that aren’t on Switch 2. For instance, you get the higher detailed character models.”

Linneman stated that the game also runs “a lot smoother” on Series S, and described the choice between both versions to “like quality mode versus performance mode.”

“If you want better frame rate, go Series S. If you want slightly better image quality, go Switch 2,” he said.

Unsurprisingly, the PS5 version is the best version, but the Switch 2 isn’t as far behind according to producer Oliver Mackenzie.

“If the Switch 2 version can compare all right against PS5, that’s quite an accomplishment. And I actually think, by and large, it does look fairly similar to PS5,” he said.

Mackenzie noted that the main difference between the two is that the PS5 version includes ray tracing (a rendering technique that simulates realistic lighting), which the Switch 2 port lacks. The PlayStation and Series X versions also have superior hair textures on its characters, which is most notable in cutscenes.

Both analysts were also enamored with the Switch 2’s handling of the game in handheld mode, with Mackenzie calling it “extraordinary” and “almost unbelievable.”

“It’s certainly up there with the best graphical experiences I’ve seen on Switch 2, if not besting them,” he said.

“It’s all the more impressive because the internal resolution of Switch 2 is just 360p on this mode.”

There are many more intricate details discussed between all versions of the game in the full 26-minute video above.

Having reviewed the Switch 2 version of the game, I can personally vouch for Switch 2’s remarkable visuals and performance. Our review reads: “Environments are densely detailed, character animations hit new heights of realism, and the monster designs are absolutely horrific.”
