About a month about, a Pokémon card shop in NYC was robbed of over $100K worth of Pokémon TCG products by a group of masked robbers. The Poké Court, as it was previously known, was holding a community event for its shop when three armed, masked individuals came in, smashed glass displays, and made off with tons of merchandise that cleared six-digits. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and the community came together to help support the store in its time of need. Sadly, that kindness didn’t extend to Nintendo.

Now rebranded as “The Trainer Court,” the store shared the message below on their Instagram account that states Nintendo got in touch with owner Courtney Chin to express concerns about its name and signage. The previous title not only made direct reference to Pokémon, but had a Poké Ball as its logo. As the store writes, “This means we’re evolving!” That’s definitely a more positive way to look at things.

The Trainer Court’s reopening

As a way to celebrate the rebranding, The Trainer Court will be holding an event on February 27th, 2026. If you remember, that’s Pokémon Day, and Nintendo NY will also be holding an event. The Trainer Court is roughly 36 blocks away from Nintendo NY, so there is a fair bit of distance between both points.
