Despite lower than expected sales for the holiday season last year, Nintendo has announced that the Switch 2 moved 4.4 million units in the US during 2025. That’s an astonishing number for just seven months of sales. The console has also retained its status as the fastest-selling console in US history, with Circana’s Mat Piscatella stating that the figure puts Switch 2 35% ahead of the PlayStation 4’s sales for the same time frame. It’s also nearly twice as many Switch units as sold in the same period.

As is to be expected from that news, the Nintendo Switch 2 was the overall best-selling piece of gaming hardware in the US for both December 2025, and the year. While both Sony and Microsoft saw sales declines in year-on-year metrics, the Switch 2 was able to lift hardware spending up 6% last month compared to December 2024. It also helped push overall sales up 9% in 2025 compared to 2024. Maybe it didn’t hit the numbers analysts expected, but the current global economy is also in shambles.

When looking at software sales, it’s really no surprise that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 landed at the number one spot in the US for December. Despite getting ravished in reviews and with fan reaction being overly negative, Black Ops 7 was the best-selling game in terms of physical and digital sales for the month. This is now the seventh year in a row that Call of Duty has wound up taking home that honor in December.

Overall sales for 2025, however, paint a different picture. Battlefield 6 took the top spot when everything was accounted for. Nintendo doesn’t share digital sales information, so there’s a chance more of its titles would have shown up in the year-end results. Still, Pokémon Legends: Z-A did land at number 17 in terms of sales, which is pretty damn good.
