On Twitter this afternoon, developer IO Interactive announced that its upcoming spy/action game 007 First Light would be delayed into May 2026. Now scheduled for release on May 27, 2026, this pushes the game back two months from its original launch, which isn’t too significant of a delay.

As the post reads, “007 First Light is our most ambitious project to date, and the team has been fully focused on delivering an unforgettable James Bond experience.” The post then assures that the game is “finished,” with IO delaying the title mostly for polish purposes. The Hitman games have never suffered from poor or sloppy performance (apart from some Nintendo Switch 2 woes), so this should be a positive step for the final game.

From what we’ve seen, the game seems to be skewing towards the type of linear action titles that typified the Xbox 360 generation, though there is also an element of Hitman’s open sandbox style of play. It could make for a very interesting stealth action title, though it remains to be seen how it will come together.
