After reporting about GameStop accidentally leaking information regarding Resident Evil Requiem’s DLC, I figured we wouldn’t hear anything else about the game until The Game Awards on Thursday. Turns out, Sony had other plans, as a placeholder image when preloading Capcom’s latest installment in the classic survival horror series on PlayStation 5 has revealed a returning veteran character. This game has more leaks than a bullet-ridden keg.
To explain without revealing who the character is, people who pre-ordered the standard edition of Requiem on PS5 had the option to set their consoles to preload the game on February 25th, 2026, which is just a few days before release. Doing so allows them to skip any waiting on launch day and jump right into the game. Sony’s digital storefront throws up an image with a message stating the expected release date, and this image is what revealed the character. Sort of a lousy way to have a major surprise ruined.
OBVIOUS SPOILERS BELOW
Following a series of rumors, it turns out that fan-favorite ex-cop Leon S. Kennedy will be making an appearance in Requiem’s main story. Unlike the leaked DLC that supposedly features Rose Winters from RE Village, Leon is prominently displayed in the key art for Requiem. Whether or not he is playable is unknown, but he’s definitely a factor in the story.

Since The Game Awards is happening this Thursday, there’s every chance we’ll see a new trailer featuring Leon at the event. With Leon typically comes Ada Wong, his estranged love interest, who has never appeared without him. She was originally planned for a cameo in Village, though that was scrapped early into development. Maybe her role from that game will carry over into Requiem.
