With only a few short months left until the release of Resident Evil Requiem, it seems Capcom is starting to lift the veil on what the game will look like during combat. We’ve already seen cinematics and even some exploration, but now we have a better idea of how protagonist Grace Ashcroft will do battle with the undead. As it turns it, the game looks an awful lot like the Resident Evil 2 remake, at least as far as this short footage from a Japanese TV special indicates.

As spotted by prominent leaker Dusk Golem, Capcom recently ran a TV special on Japanese air waves that went over Resident Evil as a brand. In it, the conversation eventually drifted towards Requiem and as the developers are talking, we see some footage of Grace shooting a zombie. While the lack of gore might be shocking, it’s because Japanese ratings are very strict. In Japan, Resident Evil (and most violent games) release with two versions: a “censored” general release, and a “Cero Z” release with everything intact. For obvious reasons, the censored version is what is shown on TV.

The footage doesn’t reveal too much that we couldn’t have guessed based on the recent Resident Evil games. We already knew Requiem would include both first and third-person perspectives, which is a continuation of what Resident Evil Village did with its DLC. While I think first-person is a good change for the series, I understand that some people simply don’t gel with that style of play. Even so, the game looks similar in tone to what Resident Evil 2’s remake was, which was darker, somewhat slower paced, and with more of an emphasis on positioning. It should make for a good time.

Resident Evil Requiem will be hitting PC and consoles on February 27th, 2026. Its Nintendo Switch 2 port will not have mouse mode support.
