The last update we got on Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port was back in late October, when developer FromSoftware delayed the game into 2026. While nothing official has been revealed since then, some new footage from this past weekend’s Milan Games Week convention shows the game in a much better state than it was during the summer.
Captured by “Corey Da Flame” and uploaded to YouTube, the roughly 10 minute video showcases the opening moments of Elden Ring and some extended exploration in the early areas of Limgrave that looks substantially better than the game did at the Tokyo Game Show. While it does not show portable mode, docked play seems to hold a stable 30 fps throughout. Even the battle with Margit, the Fell Omen seems to present no problems.
My guess is that FromSoftware may have finally introduced DLSS support to its game engine. Despite releasing a few games since the advent of Nvidia’s technology on PC, the developer has shied away from incorporating the upscaler into its games. It’s possible that DLSS was the only way to get the game running smoothly on Switch 2, or maybe something else is at play. It’s hard to tell from the footage, which is taken by an external camera. The camera, itself, might be cleaning up some of the frame rate drops.
At any rate, Elden Ring looks substantially smoother now than a few months back. It was a good call by FromSoftware to delay the game so that it wouldn’t release a subpar version on Nintendo’s latest platform. It also bodes well for the Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, that is set to release sometime in 2026.
