For months now, fans have been speculating that Resident Evil Requiem will contain at least one major character from the series’ past. For whatever reason, people have worked themselves up to believe that Leon S. Kennedy will show up, possibly because the previous remake was Resident Evil 4. According to the game’s producer, Masato Kumazawa, Requiem will feature “characters that have been involved in the Raccoon City incident,” but he isn’t giving hints and has stated fans shouldn’t expect too much.

In an interview with Well-Played, Masato was asked if any characters from Resident Evil Outbreak, the PlayStation 2 online spinoff, would make an appearance. The protagonist of Requiem, Grace Ashcroft, is the daughter of one of Outbreak’s playable characters, Alyssa Ashcroft. Kumazawa responded, “I would say that yes, there are going to be some characters from the past series to come in, but don’t over-expect or hype it.” He explained further, “We can’t promise you anything about that, but the only thing I can say is that there will be characters that have been involved in the Raccoon City incident involved in the game.”

Considering that Resident Evil 7 included a cameo from Chris Redfield at the end of the game that was not leaked ahead of time, I’m guessing Requiem might pull a similar trick. I’m not sure who would even reasonably show up as Requiem takes place much later than any of the previous entries. Leon would be cool, but I would more likely expect Claire Redfield or maybe even Jill Valentine to appear.

Naturally, a later question asked if Capcom would be keen to revisit the concept of Outbreak, to which Kumazawa did not have any concrete information. “Unfortunately, at the moment we don’t have any plans of making games like those,” Kumazawa said. “But maybe if there are lots of user needs or there’s a need from the gamers or they want more like Outbreak, then maybe yes.” If you’re wondering whether Outbreak is integral to understanding Requiem, however, you won’t need to fear. Kumazawa states that the only thing linking to two is that Grace is Alyssa’s daughter.

Resident Evil Requiem will release on February 26th, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
