The upcoming installment in Capcom’s flagship horror series has been compared to fan-favorite predecessor Resident Evil 2 by Resident Evil Requiem’s producer.

Having acknowledged the similarities between Resident Evil 4 and Village, PC Gamer asked Producer Masato Kumazawa if there is a game he believes Requiem shares DNA with.

“I believe in that regard, it’s very close to Resident Evil 2,” he said.

This is fitting, as Requiem returns players to the iconic Raccoon City, the zombie-infested locale from Resident Evil 2 and 3. Kumazawa also explained how Requiem’s new main character, Grace Ashcroft, compares to Ethan Winters from 7 and Village.

“When you look at Resident Evil 7, while Ethan is the protagonist, he’s more of the character for the player,” Kumazawa said.

“He’s like a moving camera, because we wanted to have the player be immersed, to be involved, and to be scared. So, when you compare her with Ethan, Grace has a lot more characteristics: she has a lot more feelings involved, she’s more easily scared.”

Regarding the Requiem’s setting, Kumazawa confirmed that the team is not taking the decision to return to such an iconic locale lightly.

“Raccoon City’s a very important place, not just for the series but also for the development team. So that’s a lot of pressure for us,” he said.

Resident Evil Requiem will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 27th, 2026. Switch 2 will also see ports of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village on the same day.
