In a rather brief Nintendo Direct today, Nintendo unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Showcasing the general look and vibe that the film will have, the trailer confirmed two new characters who will be showing up: Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Rumored for a little over a month now, Nintendo wasn’t going to let this trailer play out without revealing who would be starring as each character. Rosalina will be played by Brie Larson, famous for her roles in Kong Skull Island and Ms. Marvel, while Bowser Jr. will be played by Benny Safdie, director of Uncut Gems and The Smashing Machine.

The plot for this movie picks up directly from the first film’s conclusion. Having been shrunk down by the brothers in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bowser is living his new tiny life in a replica castle making paintings of Peach. While Mario is very impressed, Luigi seems to be quite encouraging to their former foe. At some point, Bowser Jr. shows up and attempts to save his father, which then results in the brothers going on a chase that will take them across the galaxy. Pretty much everyone from the first film returns, minus Donkey Kong, while Rosalina’s exact role is unknown.

The movie is set to release on April 3rd, 2026, in the United States with an April 24th release in Japan. It will be available in all sorts of formats, including 2D, 3D, IMAX, and 4DX.
