In some not so unexpected news, developer FromSoftware has announced that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is now set for a 2026 release on Switch 2. Some reports out of this year’s Tokyo Games Show had stated that the performance of this port was pretty dire, so it makes a lot of sense that FromSoftware would hold the game back. The studio even wrote as much on Twitter.
“The Nintendo Switch 2 release of ‘ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition,’ originally scheduled for 2025, has been postponed to 2026 due to the need for additional time to adjust the game’s performance,” reads the post. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to users who have been awaiting the release of this title.” Alongside the Switch 2 port being pushed back, the extra DLC for the other versions of Elden Ring has also been delayed.
While this might be a bit disappointing for Switch 2 players looking forward to getting their hands on Elden Ring, it will only mean good things for FromSoftware’s upcoming Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods. Running on what looks to be the same engine as Elden Ring, it would be a shame for a major release like that to be plagued with performance woes right out of the gate. FromSoftware has a history of its games not performing optimally, but that has to be a trend the company wants to change.
