A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Nintendo is gearing suppliers up to produce 25 million Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026, or the end of the fiscal calendar. Nintendo is seemingly readying itself for a massive holiday season after lowering sales projections for the Switch 2 earlier this year. With the current sales trajectory, I suppose the company believes it can outpace every other console in history to wind up with a record-breaking first year.
Unnamed sources told the outlet that Nintendo of Japan is persuading manufacturing partners to ramp up production of the console in anticipation of a busy holiday season. While the actual number may lower depending on public reception of the device, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been ripping through sales figures at an astonishing rate. According to analysts, the console is likely to surpass sales of 17.6 million devices for 2025 alone, which puts it a good deal over Nintendo’s conservative estimates. If momentum keeps up, the console will probably reach or clear 20 million by March 2026.

As one could expect, Nintendo stock rose 2.6% today, possibly in reaction to Pokémon Legends: Z-A having released just 24 hours before. The company’s overall stock value has risen 50% this past year in response to the Switch 2’s early success. There have been a few dips here and there, but Nintendo is on track to have one of the most successful years in its entire history. In the US, alone, sales are trending 77% ahead of where the original Switch was when it released in 2017. That’s very impressive for a console that costs $450 during a global economic recession.
