According to a new article from The Game Business, Nintendo has generated around $2.2 billion in revenue from its mobile titles. This is despite not releasing anything new within the last four years, with the company only recently returning with the shadowdrop of Fire Emblem Shadows (how appropriate). The number comes from Sensor Tower, a digital insight company that provides information regarding the business dealings of mobile apps and companies.

In the accompanying podcast, host Christopher Dring chats with former Official Nintendo Magazine editor Neil Long about a range of different topics concerning games as of late. While they spend a good deal of time chatting about Remedy’s FBC: Firebreak and how it has mostly fizzled out, they do get to talking about Nintendo’s pivot away from mobile near the turn of the decade. While neither of them actually mentions the $2.2 billion figure, they do state that Fire Emblem Heroes accounts for roughly half of Nintendo’s mobile revenue and has generated about $1.19 billion.

That’s rather impressive since the company currently has just five apps that generate any kind of revenue. Free apps such as Nintendo Today! and Nintendo Music require users to be subscribed to Nintendo’s Switch Online service, but otherwise do not have ads or in-app purchases to boost sales. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp recently underwent a massive change in pricing structure as it ditched the “free-to-start” model and went for a single purchase option. It seemingly hasn’t done poorly, but Nintendo isn’t banking on it.
