One of the stranger omissions in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the identities of the sages that helped Zelda, Rauru, and Sonia battle Ganondorf during the Imprisoning War. For whatever reason, the five sages all wore masks and kept themselves mysterious during the details that Link could discover while traversing Hyrule. It was probably so that Koei Tecmo could have carte blanche when creating identities for them in the inevitable Hyrule Warriors game, which seems to be the case with today’s news.
Koei Tecmo has unveiled the names of the five sages that Zelda will team up with when players get their hands on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment next month. While we already knew they would be a Goron, Zora, Rito, and Gerudo, we can now stop referring to them by race and call them by their names. Here are the details that Koei Tecmo has released:
- Argusta: The leader of the Goron tribe. He is intelligent and generous. He has known Rauru for a long time and is a close friend.
- Kia: A Zora princess skilled in martial arts, her bravery in battle inspires the people she leads.
- Krafika: The leader of the Rito tribe and a resourceful warrior. His words and actions are often difficult to understand, but deep down he cares for his friends and is loyal.
- Ardi: A kind-hearted warrior who unites the Gerudo tribe. She obeys the tribe leader Ganondorf under the Gerudo tribe’s code.
- Lanaria: Zelda’s maid. Though she has a gentle personality, she is quick at her work and is trusted by Rauru. She has a strong curiosity about the mystical and always carries her record book with her.
As noted by Nintendo Everything, these names are direct translations of the Japanese names for each character. There’s a chance they will have different names in the localized English version. It’s still rather interesting to see Nintendo allowing a third-party developer to add official lore to the Zelda series. If nothing else, it will give those cutscenes from Tears of the Kingdom some more dramatic weight.
