During last night’s RGG Summit stream, RGG Studio announced Yakuza Kiwami 3 as its next remake. One of the worst kept secrets around, this remake will be similar to what Yakuza Kiwami 2 was, which was a ground-up remake in the Dragon Engine of its respective original title. Yakuza 3 is one of the more controversial games in the series in that its age and awkward story structure make it feel incredibly dated alongside the rest of the series. This remake should smooth over certain bits and introduce the game to a new generation of fans.
As well as remaking the original Yakuza 3, Kiwami 3 will also include a new expansion story titled “Dark Ties.” Set before the events of the game and starring antagonist Yoshitaka Mine, it won’t be a throwaway extra like Majima’s story in Kiwami 2. This is practically another game, including its own minigames and extra modes. There’s no word on how long this extra content will be, but it’s much more than just random cutscenes or a couple of hours of nonsense.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 is set to release on February 12th, 2026, for all major platforms including Nintendo Switch 2.
