To kick off today’s Nintendo Direct stream, Nintendo not only brought up the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. brand, it unveiled the title for the next Mario film from Illumination Pictures. While this would have been a truly outstanding surprise, there was a leak yesterday where Old Spice (of all brands) leaked the title with some branded merchandise. Bummer.
At any rate, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will, clearly, take things to space and have the brothers traveling the final frontier. The same exact cast from the first film will be reprising their roles, so we can all look forward to more Chris Pratt as Mario. It seems Charlie Day’s Luigi will have a bigger role, so that’s a welcomed addition. Jack Black will also be back as Bowser, but I can’t imagine he’d be the antagonist again.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set for release on April 3rd, 2026. We didn’t get a trailer today, but a short teaser did give us an idea of how the film will look.
