Closing today’s stellar Nintendo Direct was something both surprising and rightfully expected. Of course the Nintendo Switch 2 would get an all-new Fire Emblem. For all that’s new in this reveal, you might notice a few familiar elements, and at least one returning character…

Yes, that appears to be Sothis, now “grown up,” which raises several questions in its own right but seems to indicate that this will be a distant followup to Fire Emblem: Three Houses. By all accounts this looks a lot like Three Houses as well, in terms of visual presentation and some of the gameplay, standing in contrast to the more recent Fire Emblem Engage.

And like Three Houses, the stage is set for an interweaving storyline with multiple focal characters. We see a quartet spotlighted throughout this first trailer, all gathered for an event called the Heroic Games. Who’s hosting the games? What’s Sothis’ connection to it all? When will this get amiibo? Only time will tell, with Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave coming to Switch 2 in 2026.
