One of the major success stories in how to approach a video game remake is nearly ready for its Nintendo Switch 2 release. The Final Fantasy VII Remake project, against all odds, has been a great treatment of an iconic RPG, modernizing its gameplay while maintaining its world, and expanding in several ways. Per today’s Direct, in just a few short months Nintendo fans who’ve held off will be able to see for themselves why it’s so lauded.
That “Intergrade” in the title isn’t just for patented Square Enix obtusement either. Included in this will be the post-launch DLC side story starring Yuffie Kisaragi. Despite her intro in the original Final Fantasy being later on in the story, this Intermission content puts her front and center within Midgard while running in parallel to Cloud’s own story. That’s at no extra cost for Switch 2 players, making this the complete first chapter of a planned Remake trilogy.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade release details
Speaking of cost, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released for $40 when it releases for Switch 2 on January 22nd, 2026. The physical version will be yet another Game Key Card, with eShop pre-orders available now as well.
Past that, both Final Fantasy Rebirth and the so far unrevealed third title in the trilogy will also come to Switch 2, though when is still unknown.
