If this morning is anything to go by, Hollow Knight: Silksong is already a certified hit. People around the internet have been reporting that not only is the Nintendo eShop crashing when attempting to buy the game, but other storefronts such as the PlayStation Network and even Steam are buckling under pressure. Silksong was not available for pre-order ahead of its release this morning, so the convergence of hundreds of thousands of players all hitting buy at once is bringing digital storefronts to their knees.

Industry pundit Jason Schreier wrote a humorous post on Bluesky noting that the first boss of Silksong is a particularly tricky one to overcome. Others have captured the eShop dying on them as they attempt to grab the game. While a scenario like this isn’t very common, it does crop up now and then when servers get too stressed. Considering it has been happening everywhere for Silksong, I don’t think Team Cherry has to worry about recouping development costs. If anything, the game is probably already profitable.
