While Capcom has not officially confirmed or denied it yet, a new rumor suggests that Resident Evil Requiem will release on the Nintendo Switch 2 next year. This bit of speculation comes from Dusk Golem, a Resident Evil community member who tends to be correct with predictions and rumors. As they state in a tweet, Requiem will be released on both Switch 2 and PlayStation 4, though it will likely wind up as a different version.
The main version of Requiem is being specifically built for current-generation hardware with an emphasis on ray-tracing and 60 fps playback. While the Switch 2 actually can perform light ray-tracing, it would be silly to suggest that it could run a native PS5 game. As Dusk Golem writes, the Switch 2 port would be created with “different tech” in mind. Whether this means Capcom not using the RE Engine or creating levels in a totally different manner is anyone’s guess.
As Nintendo Everything brings up, Capcom did technically release Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, and Village on the original Switch… albeit as cloud versions. I’m surprised that Requiem wouldn’t follow suit, though the upgraded Switch 2 hardware probably allows for Capcom to natively run the game in some capacity. I’m not so hopeful that Requiem will be on the platform, but stranger things have happened before.
